Specifications: THE EMP EDUPAN-3 Package has been designed for the new learner to the Steelpan instrument and the music enthusiast. This package will compliment the initiative of music education programme in schools. It is a resource for music literacy, arranging techniques and the performing arts. The package includes: 1. Professionally Tuned Mini Chromatic SteelPan set 2. A SteelPan Family Chart 3. A Double CD The steelpan (pan) is a definite-pitch, acoustic, percussion instrument. It consists of a circular playing surface, traditionally made from steel, stretched into a concave shape and attached to a hollow, cylindrical resonator called a skirt. This surface is optimised into a number of isolated convex sections called notes. The instrument is usually played with hand-held, rubber-tipped, non-sonorous mallets called sticks. ELLI MAC products and programmes aim to provide opportunities for people to make music; to learn music; to learn to play music; to have fun with music using the steel pan as an instrument of choice. The DOUBLE CD contains Steel Orchestras of Trinidad and Tobago and Finland. Instrumental works combining the different genres of global music and tone: Jazz, contemporary, classical, christmas, gospel, panorama, folk. THE DOUBLE CD is the first of a series of unique, innovative, feature-packed, cost-effective, timeless cultural products, conceptualised by citizens of Trinidad and Tobago with the prime objective of playing in the global marketplace. The package contains invaluable interpretative and performance notes, together with advice to teachers. This could help them enliven their music lessons and to integrate music into the wider curriculum. THE DOUBLE CD is designed specifically for secondary and tertiary levels. The production involves a wide cross section of the music community, from arrangers, steelbands, schools, universities, pannists to those scoring and proof-editing the arrangements. The repertoire provides for the development of ensemble playing for secondary schools at the intermediate and advanced levels, with such classification being justified by the following considerations: Length, rhythm, melody, texture (which includes harmony), use of percussion and tempo.
